The St. Petrus Banden Church in Venray is a Gothic church from the 15th century. In 1944, the church's tower was blown up by the Germans, causing the roof and vault of the church to collapse and resulting in significant war damage to the building. This damage was restored in 1947-1948.
The church tower is open from April to October every Saturday and on the last Sunday of the month from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Outside these times, visits can be arranged by appointment. Inside the tower, there is an informative presentation and the impressive film "In Heavenly Name," which covers the war damage and the restoration of the church.
Various guided tours and walks around the church can be booked through VVV Venray.
Near the entrance of the church, you will find a virtual experience point of "Venray Remembers - On the Other Side," along with the associated walking route, and a audio spot of Liberation Route Europe, where the story of the church tower's destruction is told.
