Caste ruin Geijsteren

This castle was built in the 13th century. The castle was destroyed in 1585 and burned down in 1918 before being largely rebuilt. However, the castle was bombed by the English in 1944 to prevent the expelled Germans from using it again as a checkpoint. Read the story about Geijsteren Castle at www.venrayremembers.nl.

Estate Geijsteren is still managed by a real baroness. Houses belonging to the estate can be recognised by the black-and-white shutters, the colours of the coat of arms of the family de Weichs de Wenne.
